ALMOST

EVEN GETTING CAUGHT CAN’T END A LARRY STORY.

The title contains the joke: after all that pursuit, “finally” is immediately undermined by “almost.” The Larry saga keeps surviving its own supposed endings—and this chapter still isn’t the end of the story.

THEY CAUGHT LARRY. ALMOST.

The law finally caught up with Larry, the world’s worst HVAC repairman.

Unfortunately, putting him in prison only gave him another air-conditioning system to destroy.

Part 3 of The Larry Files follows Larry from a high-speed chase and an unfortunate encounter with a Taco Bell ceiling to prison, a broken cooling system, an escape through the ductwork and yet another disappearing act.

And yes—he still owes fifty bucks.

THE STORY

THE STORY.

For a brief moment, they actually caught Larry.

After spending Part 2 tearing across the country in a dented HVAC van, Larry’s luck finally runs out during a high-speed police chase.

Boxed in near a Taco Bell, he attempts the kind of escape that could only make sense to Larry: climbing through the rooftop ventilation system. The ductwork has other ideas, and Larry comes crashing through the ceiling—one flip-flop missing and his freedom apparently gone with it.

Larry goes to prison.

That should have been the end of the story.

Then the prison AC breaks.

On the hottest day of the year, the warden discovers what appears to be an HVAC license in Larry’s file and makes exactly the same mistake everyone else makes:

He lets Larry work on the air conditioning.

Larry makes the system worse, disappears into the ductwork, steals a guard’s boots and a cold Gatorade, leaves behind a Post-it marked “Balance Due — Not Paid,” steals the prison laundry van and escapes under another new name.

The law caught Larry.

They just couldn’t keep him.

Meanwhile, the original narrator’s AC is still broken.

And Larry still owes him fifty bucks.

VERSE 1
I saw it on the news, a high-speed chase I recognized the look on that sweaty face They boxed him in by a Taco Bell Larry didn’t take the capture well He tried to shimmy up a rooftop vent But the ductwork buckled and the flashing bent He came crashing down through the ceiling tile One flip-flop missing and a crooked smile
CHORUS
They finally caught Larry, put him in the pen Said he’d never see a thermostat again Traded that van for a prison jumpsuit that day Locked him in the block where the bad men stay But the warden’s got a problem, it’s a hundred and four And the cooling system’s rattling under the floor Yeah, the law got their man, and the judge had his say They finally caught Larry but on a real hot day
VERSE 2
The prison AC gave a final groan The Warden started sweating in his climate-controlled throne He looked at the files, said, “Who do we got? This cell block’s turning to a hot box” He found an HVAC license—well, it looked mostly real The signature was just a dollar store seal He pulled Larry out of the cell block Said, “Fix the central air, we’re putting you on the clock”
VERSE 3
Larry looked around, said, “I’m gonna need some space” The guard said, “Just fix it and let’s get out of this place” He tinkered for an hour, made a whole lot of noise Then disappeared like smoke between the fans and the voids Left the system worse and the cooling running hot Same as every job that Larry ever got
VERSE 4 / ESCAPE
The guards were all fainting from the recycled heat While Larry was crawling through ductwork like an athlete By the time they realized the air was still dead Larry was a mile past the razor wire and guard shed He swiped a guard’s boots and a cold Gatorade Left a Post-it on the fan: “Balance Due” — stamped “Not Paid” He stole the prison laundry van and made up a new name But the HVAC skills? They’re exactly the same
OUTRO / FINAL REFRAIN
He’s back on the loose They almost caught Larry But he slipped through the ducts Yeah, they almost caught Larry My AC’s still busted, my house is still hot And Larry’s somewhere laughing in prison-issue flip-flops He still owes me fifty bucks… Man, Larry, you suck. Yeah, they almost caught Larry… But not today.
